The Big City

After all those comics without a background, I figure I’m making up for lost time…  -j

Star Trek - There’s an actual story arc in there

I took the family to see the new Star Trek film this weekend, and I admit I enjoyed the film a lot. I probably was more impressed by it than it may have deserved because we went to see ‘Wolverine’ last weekend, and I was thoroughly disappointed by that mess of a movie.

Wolverine had some amazing action sequences and stunts, but there was almost no logical plot structure to hold the thing together.  The ’story’ felt like it was composed by two eight-year-old boys playing with a pile of action figures who came up with all the fights and the explosions first, and then went back and made up stuff for the parts in-between the action so that they could call it a script.

By comparison, Star Trek felt like an actual story came first, and then action sequences were added in to advance and/or enhance the tale.  There were other reasons I liked Star Trek as well, but after sitting through the frantic incoherence of Wolverine,  I found myself appreciating the honest attempt that J.J. Abrams makes to actually create and follow a story arc.

New Comics on Mondays and the occasional Thursday

I realize it’s important to keep up a regular schedule for posting new pages, but life can often get in the way of making comics, so I’m going to try to regularly post a new comic on each Monday, and on those weeks when I am able to get ahead, I’ll post another on Thursday.  I’d like to work up to a regular twice-a-week schedule, but I can’t promise that at the moment.  Wish me luck. -j
